Herschel Walker Leads Warnock by Four in Georgia Senate Match-up

According to a new poll from Emerson College, Herschel Walker has built a four-point lead over incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock. The University of Georgia football legend still has to beat multiple primary challengers in order to challenge Warnock in November, though most primary polls have Walker up big.

The latest Emerson College/The Hill Georgia poll, which was conducted from April 1-3, shows Herschel Walker expanding his lead over Warnock. Walker now leads the incumbent by four points, which shows improvement from a January Quinnipiac poll that had Walker leading by one.

According to the poll, Herschel Walker garnered 49% of the vote to Warnock’s 45%. A further 6% remain undecided.

Walker — who won a Heisman Trophy with the University of Georgia before playing in the NFL — has a commanding lead in most polls of the state’s GOP Senate primary race. Herschel Walker led in Emerson College’s poll with 57% of the vote while just 16% remain undecided. His next closest competitor, Gary Black, polled at 16%.

Former President Trump has described Walker as a “close friend” and encouraged him to run for the seat. The two first became acquainted in 1983, when Trump was the owner of a football team in the short-lived United States Football League (USFL).
