When he announced on Tuesday that he's running for Florida governor, Naples Congressman Byron Donalds put himself on a path for what would be an historic vote in this state and in the U.S.
If elected, Donalds would be Florida's first Black governor.
Looking beyond the Sunshine State, a Donalds' victory would put the 46-year-old in very rare company. Endorsed by President Donald Trump for Florida's top office, Donalds would be only the fourth Black governor in U.S. history.
He would also, if elected, be the first Black Republican governor in U.S. history.
