1619 Project creator and professor Nikole Hannah-Jones on Wednesday sounded off on how to compartmentalize the good work Thomas Jefferson did for black people and slavery while also knowing he owned slaves.

Hannah-Jones told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that Jefferson had “majestic ideals” about slavery but “failed to live up to them.”
